Abstract
The present article offers an analysis of the process called “agencification” that has led the EU to resort to numerous agencies in order to fulfill its administrative tasks. The focus is on the status of these agencies within the EU legal system, the manner in which they are established, their internal organization and financing, the decision-making procedures, as well as their functioning. Furthermore, the agencies are classified according to specific categories. The article explains as well the challenges that agencies face in their daily activities. Their relationship with the European institutions is also explained, especially as regards the democratic control and the control of legality exercised by the latter.
